Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is Shower of Hope a religious organization?

Man that’s a good one…how do you answer that question? We are reaching out to these girls because we have love and compassion for them and their situation, and we want to extend the love and grace we’ve received to them. We do that through building relationships with them and showing these girls love and support, not by pushing our personal beliefs on them.

2) Is Shower of Hope a pro-life organization?

Not pro-life, not pro-choice. We are POST-choice; intercepting the girls who have chosen to keep their babies AFTER that decision is made. We have NO influence or contact with the girls until after they have chosen to keep their babies. Supporting the girls and their decision is important because we now have a new generation of life that has the potential of coming up through life in a cycle of poverty, being predisposed to the same statistics that their mothers are now facing.

3) What will the mentors be teaching the girls?

The mentors and caseworkers will be working with the girls for at least one year, starting out on a weekly basis. They will be helping the girls with basic parenting skills and being available for any advice and helping the girls with various needs that they may have as new mothers. The ultimate goal is to equip the girls with basic parenting skills and, in addition, help them succeed as students to reach either a High School diploma or G.E.D.

4) Does SOH teach abstinence?

We are not an abstinence-based organization. Nevertheless, Shower of Hope aims to educate the girls we work with on the importance of healthy living habits for both the present and future of their family.

5) Are there any requirements for the pregnant teens involved?

We require each girl to agree to working with a case-worker/mentor and that each girl agrees to working toward their high school diploma or equal (GED).

6) Where do my monetary donations go?

Donations go directly to Shower of Hope primarily to buy the various supplies that we give to the girls at our yearly event listed. In addition, contributions are used in the development, marketing, and organizing of our yearly Shower of Hope event, where we connect the girls with others who can help them stay on track to success as a new mother and a student.

7) Are you condoning teen pregnancy?

Shower of Hope in no way is glorifying teen pregnancy. We are simply recognizing that it is a huge epidemic that has taken over many of our high schools and teens. We are not celebrating the teen's pregnancy, but we are supporting the girls who have found themselves in this life circumstance and aim to empower and educate them so they can move forward with their life and provide the healthiest life possible for themselves and their baby, in order to break the cycle teen pregnancy and poverty for the next generation.
